OTTAWA SUZUKI STRINGS

“Where love is deep, much can be accomplished.”  Shinichi Suzuki

Ottawa Suzuki Strings is an ensemble of young string players ages two to twenty under the direction of violinist Alice Joy Lewis. Their musical study is based on the Talent Education approach of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. The program was founded by Mrs. Lewis in 1966 and is one of the first Suzuki and most distinguished Suzuki programs in the United States. For fifty years our programs have drawn students from all over eastern Kansas and western Missouri including Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka, Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Lee’s Summit, Belton, and beyond.

Private violin, viola, and cello lessons are offered in Ottawa and Kansas City. Tuesday evenings in Ottawa and monthly pizza party play-ins in Shawnee Mission bring our students together for group lessons and classes. These Activities are a highlight of the week for many of our students and parents. Young children rehearse and socialize alongside older students in a fully supportive learning environment. Strong bonds are formed between colleagues of all ages in this family friendly atmosphere.

Early Childhood Education classes are offered for children birth to five years of age in Ottawa.
